Advice for fear of flying

Fear of flying is quite normal. At best, it means you get nervous before boarding a flight. At worst, it can stop you from ever flying.

Quite often, the fear is based on a number of different factors.

The good news is that it’s possible to overcome your phobia of flying.

The different factors that make you afraid of boarding a plane can include:

  • Fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia)
  • Fear of heights
  • The feeling that you are not in control

You can help reduce your fear of flying by learning to relax. OK, that may not be as easy as you’d like when you board a plane or sit in the waiting room. Remember to breathe. Take long, deep breaths. Inhale slowly, exhale slowly. If you’re in luck and your phobia is mild, that may be all you need to do.

But if that doesn’t work, the next best step is to get hold of a hypnosis track to help overcome your flying fear.

The hypnosis will work with your unconscious mind and will gradually change the way you perceive flying. Get hold of a good hypnosis track and listen to it on a daily basis for a couple weeks before you are due to fly. I find that a good time to do this kind of listening is just before I go to sleep as it gives my mind time to work on any underlying issues whilst it isn’t having to concentrate on other things.

Good luck with overcoming your fear of flying and remember that - despite what you’re currently thinking - flying is the safest form of transport we use.
