Shyness help: tips on overcoming your shyness

Shyness can make life awkward.

It can stop you from meeting other people or it may even prevent you from doing things you’d enjoy, if only you weren’t too shy to join in.

So how can you get shyness help?

Shyness is perfectly natural. We’re all shy at times. It’s when shyness becomes a way of life that it can cause problems.

Start off by working out when it is that you most often feel shy.

Maybe it’s when you’re in social situations with strangers. Maybe when it’s near someone you feel attracted to. Whenever it is doesn’t matter. Finding the situation that regularly causes you to feel shy is a good starting point.

Next, work out a situation where you’re least often shy. Maybe even some situation where you feel confident most of the time.

What we’re going to do is copy some of thing you do when you feel confident (or at least less shy) and “map” them across to when you feel shy.

One of the simplest ways to do this is with visualization. Using a shyness hypnosis track can help or you can do the process on your own.

Think back to one of the situations where you’ve felt at least fairly confident. Close your eyes and make the picture in your mind’s eye vivid: full of color, loud sounds, maybe there’s a smell or a feeling that comes to mind as well. Intensify those feelings! More!

Now, whilst you’re still imagining this, give yourself an “anchor” so you can go back to this happy state at will. The “anchor” should be easy to do but not something you’d normally do – maybe it’s pinching your left ear lobe, maybe it’s touching your thumb and second finger on your left hand together. Anything like this will work fine. Repeat this process daily for the next few days – you’ll find the feelings intensify and that merely performing your “anchor” will trigger them.

Now let’s use that to reduce your shyness. Imagine a situation where you’d normally feel shy. But this time, don’t make it too vivid. Instead, fire off your trigger anchor and see your confidence overwhelming the shyness you’d normally experience and swamping it, so that you start to feel comfortable (or at least less shy) in these situations.
