How To Drink More Water

OK, you know you’re supposed to drink more water.

You’ve read all the stories in the press that tell you that you should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day.

But whichever way you cut it, you know deep down that you should drink more water and maybe even cutting down on soda or caffeine.

So how can you drink more water?

Learning to drink more water is a habit. Which means that like any new habit, it can take a bit of time to get used to.

There are several ways you can train yourself to drink more water:

1. Make sure you always have a glass of water next to you on your desk or while you’re at home. Take regular sips and replenish it when it’s empty.

Which all sounds obvious but it’s surprisingly easy to skip the habit – I’m a lot better at drinking water when I’m at my desk than when I’m just lounging around the house.

2. Set yourself up some kind of reminder system. It could be as simple as setting your watch to bleep at you at regular intervals. Or a reminder on your PC’s diary that pops up. You’ll know what works best to remind you with other things in your life.

3. Add a slice of fruit to give yourself some variety. Some people find that water on its own can be a bit “boring”. This happens to people who’ve been used to drinking soda or coffee. Add a slice of lemon or a twist of lime to bring a bit of variety into your water drinking.

4. Carry water with you on long journeys. Sure, it’s readily available in shops but it’s cheaper to buy it by the pack in the grocery store and keep a few bottles in your fridge, ready to take with you on a journey.
