Overcome your fear of needles
If you suffer from a fear of needles, it can be quite a problem.
In the dark of the cinema, you can turn your head away from the screen or look downwards whilst a needle is being used.
But that’s more difficult in real life when you’re face to face with someone who needs to give you an injection for your own good…
So, what can you do to overcome your fear of needles?
If your mind wants to work with you on this, you could rationalize your fear. For instance, that scary looking dentist wielding a needle close to your gums is only trying to stop you from feeling pain when they fix your teeth.
Likewise, the nurse only wants to use a needle to immunize you from a disease that’s far worse than the small pinprick you’ll feel.
But that probably doesn’t cut the ice with your inborn fear of sharp needles.
So what next?
If you can manage it, looking away works for a lot of people. You may even have to glance back (quickly, of course) to check the deed has been done.
But if your needle phobia is deeper than that, then you’ve got a couple of choices: if the jab is for pain protection, go without and hope for the best; if it’s for protection against disease, see if it can be administered any other way.
Or you can turn your mind around with the help of hypnosis. Just listen to this specially recorded hypnosis track a few times and your fear will begin to melt away. It really does work and all it takes is a few listens – in the privacy of your headphones if you want – and you’ll find the thought of having an injection becomes bearable.
