How To Be A Good Listener

You’ve doubtless heard the rather glib phrase before:  “you’ve got two ears and one mouth, use them in that ratio”.

But there’s a world of difference between knowing that kind of thing and actually doint it.

Most of us like the sound of our own voice and prefer to talk rather than listen to others.

Thing is, there really are times when we should listen more.

But how?

And even if you are listening – or appear to be – how often are you actually thinking about what you’re going to say next?

It’s OK, you can admit it. We all do it sometimes.

Think about how often you’re asked what you just said.

Sometimes we’re on complete autopilot and don’t actually know the answer to that question either. Which means we’re not even listening to what we’re saying.

Ouch!

If you’re not listening to yourself and the other person isn’t listening to you either, that’s a waste of breath by any definition.

If you find yourself falling into the trap of not listening on a regular basis, it’s time to turn the tide and become a good listener.

The weird result from doing this is that people will start to seek out your opinion more often. And chances are they’ll listen to what you say as well.

In this instance, less is usually more.

Less words mean more valuable words.

So becoming a good listener will likely get other people to want to listen to you as well.

You can get help to be a good listener here.
