Without getting too technical, your metabolism is the speed that your body processes food that you eat.

That’s actually why a lot of diets fail after a few weeks – your body adjusts to the lower calorie levels. Which is pretty much an own goal as it then takes time and effort to increase your metabolism levels again.
Exercise helps as well. You don’t have to spend a long session at the gym – a brisk walk or taking the stairs instead of the elevator will all help.
