How To Stop Being Judgemental

It happens to all of us at some point in time: we turn judgemental on someone or something. Quite often it’s a snap decision – the way someone appears or something in their behavior that triggers a judgemental feeling in us or simply brushes us up the wrong way.

We can either live with these decisions or make a conscious effort to stop being judgemental as often.

Here are some tips to help stop being judgemental

Stop being judgemental imageGive yourself time for a second thought

If you’ve ever been in the situation where you initially thought someone was a complete and utter idiot but, once you got to know them a bit better, you changed your mind then you’ll know what this one means.

Sometimes all it can take is a pause for thought. Those extra split seconds give your mind a chance to process more information and give you a more rounded opinion.

If that’s not your style, try a re-evaluation of your opinion in a week or so’s time. That’s long enough for a second chance to actually happen without the danger of your initial view becoming so entrenched that you’d need a ton of dynamite to shift it.

Just accept them as they are

This can be difficult at first but if you can train your mind to accept people and things for who and what they are – as opposed to who or what you think they should be – then you’re on the right track.

Acceptance is an art. Some people never learn it (but you’re not a dictator so there’s a good chance you can learn) others only begrudgingly accept other people. Your choice entirely but if you can err towards the side of just accepting other people at face value then you’ll free up a lot of your time for more productive things in your life.

Stop trying to change others

Quite often the judgemental side of us is actually a thinly disguised attempt to change the people around us.

We feel that if we’re judgemental often enough then they will change – and hopefully improve – to meet our high standards.

One major snag with this is that most people we meet on a regular basis aren’t chameleons. They can’t change at whim to meet the different standards of everyone they meet. That just isn’t possible.

Try hypnosis to stop being judgemental

As ever, hypnosis is a good way to help re-train your subconscious mind and help it to shift the way it thinks.

If your conscious efforts to stop being judgemental have ground to a halt, get hold of a hypnosis MP3 and play it to yourself for the next few days. And, by the way, don’t be judgemental about the possible results you’ll get!
