Taking a nap: how to power nap
Power napping is the art of taking a short “power” nap – often only 10 or 20 minutes – and then coming back to face the rest of your day fully refreshed and raring to go.
Some countries – usually those where the midday sun is powerful – take this to a longer break or siesta but that’s not usual in Western society.
Taking a nap can have lots of benefits:
After the nap, you’ll come back refreshed, more alert and you’ll be more productive.
It’s also beneficial to your health – it’s much better to take a 10 minute power nap than it is to have a caffeine-fueled coffee break for instance.
So how can you power nap?
- Turn off your cell phone
- Wear shades or draw the drapes
- Use a power nap track or set your alarm
Then just take a short nap! Don’t concentrate too much on it or make a big thing of it. And don’t fret if your first few attempts aren’t 100% successful.
That said, you can increase the chance of first time success by using a specially recorded power nap track that will guide your brain through the complete process from going quickly into a deep sleep state and then waking up again from it, feeling totally refreshed.
